Slayer announce second leg of "American Carnage" U.S. tour
Posted on: July 15th, 2010
Metalheads, rejoice: North America's biggest thrash tour in 20 years is announced, as 1991's original American "Clash of the Titans" lineup - Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax - will tour together once again on Leg Two of the "American Carnage Tour." This trek kicks off September 24 at Superpages.com Center in Dallas, TX and will play 20 dates, including New York's Nassau Coliseum, concluding at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on October 21.
On Leg Two of American Carnage, Megadeth will continue to roar through its landmark 1990 album Rust in Peace from front to back, while Slayer will rip the roof off by performing its much-lauded Seasons in the Abyss album, which was also released in 1990. Anthrax recently welcomed back singer Joey Belladonna, who defined the band during its heyday, and now permanently back in the band, will be front-and-center.
Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax will kick off the second leg of the "American Carnage Tour" on the heels of the historic "Big Four" Sonisphere Festival concerts they played with Metallica in seven European cities this summer. The dates marked the first time that these four bands - acknowledged as the most influential bands of the thrash genre - had shared a concert bill.
The original "Clash of the Titans" tour united the three forces of thrash metal for the entire summer of 1991, with then-little known Alice in Chains serving as the opener. This tour, which falls under the "American Carnage" banner, isn't rewriting history, it's writing a whole new chapter of head-banging history that is sure to delight fans new and old.
Megadeth and Slayer return to North America late this month to co-headline the east coast "Canadian Carnage Tour," and then starting August 11, the first leg of the "American Carnage Tour" (dates below) with Testament as Special Guest. The tour was originally scheduled for a winter 2010 run, but was postponed when Slayer bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was forced to undergo neck surgery. But as is the case for anything good in life, this tour will be well worth the wait.

Slayer "Pinball Rocks" app
Posted on: July 15th, 2010
One of heavy metal's most respected and influential bands, Slayer is about to enter the "app age" with the launch of Slayer: Pinball Rocks, a new pinball game app developed in conjunction with American Recordings/Columbia Records, Sony Music Entertainment and Gameprom.
"As a life-size pinball player, this looks so awesome," said Slayer's Kerry King. "It looks really fun and entertaining, with a shot of evil, and it could definitely keep me up all night with a few shots for myself..."
Slayer: Pinball Rocks continues the rich legacy of iconic metal and rock bands making pinball tables, and for the first time extends that experience into the app world in a meaningful way, by offering fans an exciting and realistic gaming experience that immerses players in Slayer's legendary sound and dynamic visual aesthetic.
Slayer: Pinball Rocks appeals to both long-time and new Slayer fans, as well as any pinball enthusiast, by giving gamers multi-ball play and full tap-along mini-game, as well as exciting visual elements like spinning razor blades, guitars, amps, concert lights, and a skull that eats your ball and spits it out through its eyeball. And of course, this is all accompanied by music that rocks courtesy of Slayer.
"We are excited to be premiering the Sony Music Pinball Rocks franchise with one of the great metal bands of all time," says Matt Kozlov, Vice President, New Products and Services, Global Digital Business, Sony Music Entertainment. "We think fans are going to love this exciting new way to live the Slayer experience."
Slayer: Pinball Rocks is available worldwide for $2.99 from the App Store or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. The game will include original voiceovers from Slayer members as well as songs from Slayer's latest American Recordings release, "World Painted Blood".

"Big Four" show broadcast via satellite to select movie theatres
Posted on: May 22nd, 2010
Heavy metal's "Big Four" Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax commemorate their historic concerts together with a one night global movie theater event on June 22nd
SoniSphere festival concert to be beamed via satellite from Sofia, Bulgaria to movie theaters around the world
Over 450 U.S. theaters in more than 140 U.S. markets to exhibit concert event to fans tickets on sale now
The "Big Four", Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax are bringing their historic European tour to the global stage by beaming the event via satellite to movie theaters around the world in a special HD cinematic event. These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement in the 1980’s to dominate the metal world, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. Despite huge demand, these musical giants have never shared the same stage until now. The legendary June 22nd concert from the tour’s stop of the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria will air the same day in 450 theaters in over 140 markets in the U.S., as well as beamed into theaters in Europe, Canada and Latin America. Delayed screenings are planned in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Tickets for "The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax" go on sale starting today Friday, May 21st in the U.S. and internationally starting Friday, May 28th at participating theater box offices and at www.thebigfourlive.com, where fans can also view the event cinema trailer.
In December 2009, the bands announced that they would be joining forces to take part in the traveling Sonisphere Festival for only 7 shows across Europe. Now, this one-time only event from the Sofia show makes it possible for fans far and wide to participate in what otherwise is a very limited run of dates. The high-definition concert presentation will memorialize the event and the impact will be amplified globally with the cinema screenings, making the dreams of fans around the world over become a reality.
Lars Ulrich of Metallica says of this historic announcement, "Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal's Big Four would not only still be around, be more popular than ever, playing shows together at stadiums all over Europe, and on top of that, coming to a movie theater near you in High Definition (for better or worse??!!). Bring it on!"
Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian says "Damn, as if this Big 4 tour wasn't exciting enough now we get to be on the big screen worldwide! Metal at the movies, two big horns up! It is unbelievably gratifying that this means so much to the metal community around the globe. Get your tix, grab some popcorn and get ready to bang your head!"
Declares Slayer’s Kerry King, "I can't believe someone didn’t make this happen 15 years ago! The fans finally get what they want. I think it’s awesome!"
Says Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, "The magnitude of this event hasn't really sunk in yet, and I am thrilled to know that people around the planet will be able to walk into a movie theater and experience the greatest line up of Heavy Metal in the history of the world!"
"The Big Four: Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax" digital cinema event is distributed globally by New York-based BY Experience.
Tickets for the one night only event are available now at presenting U.S. theater box offices and online at www.thebigfourlive.com. Tickets go on sale internationally from Friday, May 28th. Additional cinemas/countries may be added. Presently, over 800 cinemas worldwide will exhibit the concert event. Exhibition times may vary by territory. In the U.S., the program will commence at 7:30 PM in each time zone.
For more information and a list of participating movie theaters please go to www.thebigfourlive.com.

Slayer to play Seasons in the Abyss in its entirety!
Posted on: April 26th, 2010
Megadeth and Slayer, who last toured the U.S. together 19 years ago on the "Clash of the Titans" extravaganza, have confirmed that they will each perform, start to finish, their 1990 releases — Slayer's world-wide, million-selling Seasons in the Abyss and Megadeth's Platinum Rust in Peace — on the upcoming Canadian and American Carnage Tours. The six-date Canadian Carnage kicks off July 23 in Quebec City, while the 19-city American Carnage dates begin August 11 in Glens Falls, NY. With Slayer and Megadeth co-headlining, Testament will be Special Guest on all dates.
Tickets purchased for the Canadian and Carnage Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for the rescheduled dates.
Nineteen hundred and ninety was one stellar year for fans of intense heavy metal, as both Rust in Peace and Seasons in the Abyss are considered to be among the genre's all-time classics. "War Ensemble," "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," "Dead Skin Mask," "Hanger 18," "Seasons In The Abyss" — the preeminent list of metal standards that these two albums spawned has rarely been matched by others.
Slayer — guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo — scored a major breakthrough upon the original release of Seasons in the Abyss (Slayer's fifth studio album overall), as it was the group's first album to hit the U.S. Top 40, and saw Slayer playing to the biggest crowds of their career during 91's "Clash of the Titans" tour.
Megadeth's fourth album, Rust in Peace, saw the band cement their status as one of the most important metal bands with masterpieces like "Hanger 18" and "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," as well as a top 25 debut on the Billboard charts. The album has been hailed as one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time with IGN recently naming it one of the most influential metal albums ever. Megadeth is now rejoined by original bassist Dave Ellefson and are firing on all cylinders.
The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be postponed due to Slayer vocalist/bassist Tom Araya's treatment for severe back pain, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. A surgical procedure in January corrected the problem once and for all, and he felt better almost immediately.
"Right after the surgery," said Araya, "I could tell that the issue was fixed. There's no more pain, it just feels really good. I'm really excited and I'm anxious to get together with the rest of the guys and start rehearsing again. We cancelled two tours, and I don't feel great about that, but I couldn't deal with the pain anymore, and that's now completely gone. I know the fans are excited to see the band — the tour is on, we're keeping our word, there will be no more cancellations."

Canadian and American Carnage Dates Rescheduled
Posted on: February 1st, 2010
Slayer and Megadeth are thrilled to announce the new, confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23.
Slayer will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11. American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4. Testament will be Special Guest on all shows.
Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates.
*Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase. However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento.
The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Slayer's vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya's ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate. That surgery took place early last week.
"The doctors said that Tom's surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success," said Rick Sales, long-time Slayer manager. "He's home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably."
Shortly after the surgery, Slayer's Kerry King received a text from Tom: "Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better."
The American Carnage Tour will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament will have toured the U.S. together since 1991's epic "Clash of the Titans" tour, making this truly a "must-see" event.

US/European dates postponed; Tom Araya scheduled for back surgery
Posted on: January 11th, 2010
"Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," said Slayer's manager Rick Sales, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."
This difficult decision made by the band's bassist/vocalist Tom Araya means the cancellation of Slayer's immediate tour plans that include the American and Canadian Carnage Tour dates that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's UK/European headline tour scheduled for March and April. Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling the tour dates; tickets already purchased for these shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.
The headbanging Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a Cervical Radiculopathy. The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms. The surgical procedure that Araya will undergo, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is a relatively routine practice and the recovery rate is excellent.
Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."
Update:
While Tom is at rest working on his recovery, the Slayer team is working hard to reschedule all postponed shows!
For all your fans with tickets to the American Carnage, Canadian Carnage, and UK/EU shows: Hold on to your tickets, more information will be coming your way!
Thanks for all of your support.

Slayer and Megadeth team up for "American Carnage" tour
Posted on: November 16th, 2009
Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Individually, their respective prowess and accomplishments are impressive; but together, they're brutal and unstoppable. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline "American Carnage," the most blistering, the most explosive, and the most eagerly anticipated mega-tour of the winter mdash; and you do not want to miss it.
"American Carnage" will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday November 18 at 10am until Thursday November 19 at 10pm.
"American Carnage" is the first time that Slayer and Megadeth will have toured the U.S. together since 1991's epic "Clash of the Titans" tour. To celebrate that and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, Megadeth and Slayer have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the "1991 price" of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they're gone, they're gone. Megadeth has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.
In addition, Testament - who was also on the "Clash of the Titans" bill, will be Special Guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a "must see" metal event.
Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road supporting new albums: Megadeth's 2009 album, ENDGAME, while Slayer's World Painted Blood, the band's 10th studio venture, hit stores November 3. Testament's The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010, with special unreleased bonus tracks.
Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S. - first with four explosive dates in June, 2009 across Western Canada - "Canadian Carnage" - marking the first time the bands had shared a stage anywhere in 18 years; and then six co-headlining "Carnage" dates in Australia followed in October.
According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: "It was a night of thrash impossible to trash..." "Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun..." "The two heavy metal heavyweights ...went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their 'A' game. And the results were anything but pretty - unless you include pretty freakin' loud and pretty freakin' awesome."
Slayer. Few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer - guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo - brings to its live shows, having been named "Best Live Band" by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. World Painted Blood offers a Slayer-ized point of view of our world - God's terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, and a chilling hypothesis of how the rest of the world might view America. The album was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009. World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman, who's spent time in the studio with Metallica, the Gossip, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slipknot and others, and executive produced by long-time Slayer colleague, Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. One reviewer called the album "the heaviest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades." Fans got a couple of early morsels of the brutal new Slayer material -- "Psychopathy Red," a Hanneman song inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who confessed to savagely murdering 56 children, was recorded last October and then leaked online. Then, the King-penned track, "Hate Worldwide," was made available in July as a limited-edition single through Hot Topic. For "American Carnage," Slayer's Tom Araya promises, "no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos."
Megadeth. 2009 saw the release of ENDGAME, what has been heralded as Megadeth’s best album in years. It’s the record where it all comes full circle in a career that has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them. Megadeth’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine once musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a government document that should strike fear in the hearts of Americans! But that’s Mustaine and Megadeth, using the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically. Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, ““One of their best albums.” VH1’s That Metal Show deemed it, “One of the metal albums of the year”, and Popmatters said, ““the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust in Peace.
Legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose latest award-winning release (2008 Album of the Year, Metal Hammer's Golden God Award) The Formation of Damnation, displays them as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever. Lead singer Chuck Billy says, "Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations. We are so proud to be a part of it." Slayer and Megadeth are also re-scheduling the east coast leg of the “Canadian Carnage” tour, postponed from this fall.

Slayer postpones UK/European Tour
Posted on: November 13th, 2009
It is with immense disappointment that Slayer must postpone its UK and European tour that had been set to kick off on November 18 in the UK, and take the band on 19 dates through Europe, ending on December 17 in Germany. The tour will be rescheduled to kick off on March 7 in Manchester, England.
Vocalist/bassist Tom Araya has been under the care of a specialist for a back injury, and while he has already made substantial improvement, he is continuing on with doctor-prescribed treatment.
"Right now," said Slayer's manager, Rick Sales, "our main concern must be the full and permanent recovery of Tom, so we have decided to clear the calendar and give him the extra time he needs to concentrate solely on good health."
Last week, Slayer announced the postponement of it's east coast "Canadian Carnage" co-headline tour with Megadeth; those dates will be rescheduled in February 2010.
The new UK/European schedule is:
- March 7th - ENG, Manchester Academy

- March 16th - HOL, Tilburg 013
- March 17th - BEL, Brussels AB
- March 18th - GER, Herford X

We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon."

"World Painted Blood" deluxe edition to include 'Playing With Dolls Horror' short
Posted on: October 14th, 2009
It was only a matter of time before Slayer's lyrics leapt off the printed page and made their wanton way to the visual medium. The band's discography is gorged with tales of mass murderers, serial sadists and drooling deviants of every stripe — vicious mental cases just begging for a cinematic reception.
Enter "Metalocalypse" director and big-time Slayer fan Mark Brooks who created a 20-minute DVD titled "Playing with Dolls", a 12-episode video-graphic novel that will be included exclusively in Slayer's "World Painted Blood" deluxe edition, out November 3 in tandem with the "World Painted Blood" standard edition. Inspired by the songs on "World Painted Blood" — in particular Jeff Hanneman's "Playing With Dolls", from which the horror short takes its title — the film blends elements of animation and still-photography into a visual style similar to that of a graphic novel. A trailer for the short can be viewed below. The soundtrack for the "Playing With Dolls" short features clips from all 11 of the songs on "World Painted Blood"; in addition, the music bed for episode No. 7 is taken from "Atrocity Vendor", a new song that is not on the album.
"It's not live action and it's not animated," Brooks explains. "It's a weird hybrid of the two, and I haven't seen a lot of things done this way."
No mere music video, "Playing with Dolls" is a stark, 12-part nightmare that breathes corrupt life into Slayer's latest syllabus of stalkers, psychopaths and serial killers, merging their aberrant psyches into the supremely focused desire of a single, merciless malcontent. A methodical distillation of one man's lethal frenzy, the film follows the gruesome outbursts of a nameless protagonist. He is not an indiscriminate murder junkie, but rather a highly creative snuff-artist with a deeply personal sense of purpose — a man for whom murder is the only conceivable way forward. With a black heart hardened by tragedy, he chooses his victims carefully. His methods are as grisly and varied as they are poetic.
"It's a little weirder than your regular blood n' guts type thing," Brooks says of the storyline, "which I think is a reflection of Slayer's music."
But make no mistake: There will be blood, and plenty of it. As the real-life boyfriend of one of the film's "victims" told Brooks after a private screening, "I almost threw up while I watching that. And I think that's a compliment."
Tom Araya, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and Dave Lombardo — started recording "World Painted Blood", the band's 10th studio album, last October in a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Feldeman, and completed it this past May. Recording "World Painted Blood" was a unique experience for Slayer who has historically begun the recording process with all songs written and fully rehearsed. This time, they did the bulk of writing and song development while in the studio. According to drummer Dave Lombardo, "On this record, we worked a lot more collectively, we were more attentive to each other's ideas and willing to try them, which only benefited the album." "World Painted Blood" is indeed a Slayer album, and consequently deals with topics such as death and destruction, war, serial killers, and the Apocalypse. "Psychopathy Red", leaked online a year ago, was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. "Beauty Through Order" (Kerry King: "one of Jeff's songs, it has a very heavy 'do me' intro to it then explodes with a really cool vibe,") "Unit 731", "Playing With Dolls" (Lombardo: an awesome track, great song structure, great vibe"), "Public Display of Dismemberment", and "Americon", a King composition. Of "Americon", King explains, "It's about what I think the rest of the world thinks of America. We may not be big on a lot of people's lists, but I don't care what you think of my government, of my economy, or whatever. I live here and this is one of the best places that I've ever found to live. So f*#k you if you don't like it."
"World Painted Blood" will initially ship with four special collector's edition CD covers. Each of the four covers will display one-fourth of a provocative continental map illustrated with human skulls and bones; when placed together, the four images form a complete and grisly map of the world.
All four of the initial CD packages will include a special blood-red, see-through top panel with the map displayed beneath it.

'Psychopathy Red' 7" Single for Third Annual 'Record Store Day'
Posted on: March 29th, 2009
"Psychopathy Red", the first new track from Slayer since 2006's thrashterpiece "Christ Illusion", will be available as a seven-inch vinyl disc beginning Saturday, April 18, 2009 as part of the third annual Record Store Day. Only 5,000 of these limited edition discs will be manufactured worldwide, and will be available exclusively at participating independent record stores. Log on to www.recordstoreday.com for the list of participating stores.
The blood-red vinyl "Psychopathy Red" seven-inch collectors item will be packaged in a special Russian crime scene "evidence envelope" (see image below), as the song was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. The song was recorded by the band — guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo — in a Los Angeles recording studio last October.

April 18 marks "Record Store Day," the annual day that celebrates the unique culture surrounding the more than 700 independently owned record stores across the U.S. and hundreds of similar stores internationally. The members of Slayer chose to unleash "Psychopathy Red" on this day — and only through independent record stores — to acknowledge the support those outlets have offered to the band and to metal music over the years.
Tom Araya provides new album update
Posted on: March 29th, 2009
Artisan News Service recently spoke to Tom Araya about how the recording process or the band's new CD is going so far.
"This new album is coming together really well," he said. "We've been in the studio now for four weeks. I think four or five weeks and it's coming across together, you know it has all the Slayer elements. I don't want to compare it to but it has very 'Christ Illusion'-type songs. You know, it's in that vein but there's also fast songs, l mean, [the recently released song] 'Psycopathy Red' — that right there should give you an example of the broad spectrum of Slayer music is going to be on this album."

Read a chapter from 'Reign in Blood' book
Posted on: November 7th, 2008
Continuum Books is offering a free sample chapter from "33 1/3: Reign in Blood", the first English-language book about Slayer. In the book, author D.X. Ferris takes a documentary approach to the record and its impact. It explores the album's creation based on interviews with it creators, including the band, producer Rick Rubin (the Def Jam co-founder who then was known strictly as a rap producer), and engineer Andy Wallace. Also 47 artists and fans weigh in on the album's enduring legacy.
The November issue of Metal Maniacs says, "To say that 'Reign in Blood' is mandatory reading for fans of the band and the album is ridiculously understated. Perhaps more importantly, the book is essential for anyone with an interest in heavy metal."
Send an e-mail to Slayerbook ( at ) gmail.com, and Continuum will send a .pdf file of the chapter of about the album-opening song "Angel of Death", a stone-cold thrash-metal classic. The controversial tune nearly cost the band its new major-label deal.
The chapter features recollections from Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King, in addition to comments from Rick Rubin, Unearth frontman Trevor Phipps, Helmet mainman Page Hamilton, Dark Angel/SYL drummer Gene Hoglan, Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor, Henry Rollins, and others.
Fans are also welcome to send any questions about the book to the e-mail address. The author will respond personally.

Slayer was nominated for the track "The Final Six", from the band's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion". A visibly nervous Araya accepted the award, stating, "Thank you very much. I don't know what to say. This is our second time. I have to thank Sony, first off, for reissuing the record and putting this new song on the album, and now I'm here again - we are here again, actually. Most of all, [I'd like to] thank Rick Rubin [producer and head of American Recordings], who's been with us, been there for us for the past 23 years, 24 years. Thank you. My wife, my two kids; Sandra [wife], Ariel and Tommy. They're here with me. Of course, my manager, who's been with us for a good 20 years now. Well, thank you very much. Thank the Academy. Thank you."
Slayer's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All", and last year's "Eyes of the Insane", for which they took home the Grammy Award.
