Slayer is the speed-metal band that's never slowed down. Metallica? They enlisted a touchy-feely therapist to help the band finish its St. Anger album. Very unmetal. The once-mighty Anthrax is pretty much an afterthought.Image

Gitaren, bandleden en publiek vliegen door de lucht, het hoort er allemaal bij.

NIJMEGEN - Slayer, Anthrax en Meshuggah zijn de eerste drie namen die bekend zijn gemaakt voor Fortarock 2012. Het festival dat op 2 juni wordt georganiseerd in Park Brakkenstein in Nijmegen zet hiermee een duidelijke stap om een groter publiek te trekken.

Slayer is een van de meest bekende namen in de metalscene. Slayer behoorde samen met Anthrax, Metallica en Megadeth in de jaren tachtig tot de grondleggers van de zogeheten thrash metal. Hun album Reign In Blood uit 1986 geldt als klassieker in het genre.

Dergelijke grote namen stonden al langer op het verlanglijstje van het festival, maar konden vorig jaar nog niet geboekt worden. Organisator Freek Koster: “Vorig jaar waren er ten tijde van Fortarock een hoop andere festivals. Veel bands lagen toen al vast. Nu het festival een maand eerder is, was het makkelijker om grotere namen te boeken.”

Volgens Koster gaan er nog veel bands bekend gemaakt worden, maar liggen de headliners met Slayer en Anthrax nu al vast. “We hebben altijd een festival willen zijn voor 6000 à 7000 bezoekers, nu hebben we daar ook de bands voor geboekt.” Slayer verkocht in 2010 twee keer 013 in Tilburg uit en speelde dit jaar nog in een vol Effenaar en Klokgebouw in Eindhoven.

De eerste 500 tickets kosten 49,50 euro. Wie voor 1 januari een kaartje koopt, is 54,90 kwijt en daarna kosten kaartjes 59,50 euro.
