AC/DC - PHIL RUDD Charged With Murder

Postby vavoom on Thu Nov 06, 2014 11:22 am

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd allegedly tried to have two men killed.

He appeared in the Tauranga District Court this afternoon, charged with attempting to procure a murder.

Rudd, 60, dressed in jeans and a grey sweater, said nothing during his short stint in the dock of the court, before being released on bail.

He entered no plea to the charges and will reappear in court in three weeks.

Media applied for permission to film and photograph Rudd in the dock.

His lawyer Tony Rickard-Simms argued against that saying the media just wanted to get photos of Rudd "at his worst".

But Judge Bidois allowed filming of Rudd.

One of the alleged victims told Fairfax this afternoon he didn't want to comment before speaking to his lawyer. He was not in a position to speak.

Rudd had been in custody since 7am when his house was raided by police.

In releasing Rudd on bail he ordered that he should have no contact with the man he allegedly tried to hire to carry out the murder.

According to the charges laid by police, Rudd had tried to get two men killed - their names and that of the intended hitman were all suppressed by the judge.

AC/DC fans have taken to the band's website to expres concerns the band will never tour again.

Fans say they're worried the charges against Rudd will stop any future tours and overshadow the group's album Rock or Bust due out later this month.

Rudd was driven from court by a blonde woman in a silver Mercedes Kompressor convertible.

He refused to talk to gathered media.

Rudd's arrest comes after police raided the drummer's home on the Tauranga waterfront at Matua this morning.

He is also charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis and threatening to kill.

Michael Browning, AC/DC's former manager, told the Daily Mail the situation was a "bit of a shock".

Sad news indeed, if its true. As far as AC/DC goes they`ll be ok, I`m sure Simon Wright or that bald dude will be glad to come back to the band :smoke:

AC/DC has commented on the arrest of the band's drummer, Phil Rudd, by New Zealand police on charges of attempting to arrange a murder.

Said the group in a statement: "We've only become aware of Phil's arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil's absence will not affect the release of our new album, 'Rock Or Bust', and upcoming tour next year."

Rudd also faces charges of possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, and of threatening to kill. Rudd's home in New Zealand was raided by police on Thursday morning (November 6) and the 60-year-old drummer was taken to court, where he entered no plea to the charges later that afternoon. He was released on bail and will reappear in court on November 27.

Rudd is alleged to have tried to hire a hitman to kill two men. Their names and that of the intended hitman were not released to the media. If convicted, Rudd faces a maximum of 10 years in jail.

The alleged events reportedly took place between September 25 and September 26.

Rudd was missing from AC/DC's new publicity photo and was also a no-show at the group's video shoot on October 3 and October 4 for its two new singles, "Play Ball" and "Rock Or Bust".

Rudd was replaced for the filming by drummer Bob Richards. Singer Brian Johnson reportedly told fans at the shoot that Rudd was unable to participate due to an undisclosed "family emergency."

AC/DC's new album, "Rock Or Bust", will be released on December 2. The 11-song set is AC/DC's first without guitarist Malcolm Young, who is suffering from dementia. He has been replaced by nephew Stevie Young.

Why's that? He still had cannabis and meth in his house. If he was broke and black he would have been locked up too.

NZ law is pretty dodgy when it comes to celebrities esp athletes
former league player marc ellis got off with a $300 fine and no conviction for possession of several CLASS A drugs and been caught up in a `celebrtity drug ring'

he also let fire works and explosives off for a publicity stunt on the top of a island volcano which had a total fireban and also took a vehicle onto the island which also was totally illegal.....and was never charged with anything

but how NZ law would reflect on HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS remains to be seen
if you download SLAYER albums your a traitor to the brotherhood

Ofcourse it depends on the laws overthere. But Rolo reacted like a Bieber fan like it's no problem to drink and drive. Doesn't matter what kinda music he makes, it's what he did wrong.

I´m not acting like a fanboy, if he done wrong, he´s gonna pay. I was surprised cause this wasn´t a good year for AC/DC, first Malcolm is out cause of his dementia illness and now Rudd charged with murder... what´s next? Brian Johnson losing his voice? The band is falling in pieces.

He was charged with attempting to procure a murder. which is very different that actually murdering. I also feel the charges have been dropped. charges are just a beginning step in a legal process. anyone can pretty much be charged with anything for the most part. the real test of the pudding is if they stick. example... I charger Slayer213 for crossing the streams in ghostbusters... congrats...you now have that charged against you. however, evidence suggests that you were not in that movie and the charges are misrepresented, so the said charges cannot cycle further in the legal process.
